This is the first piece in a progression of 3. It has endured a long journey of anxious brushstrokes, frustrated do-overs, uncertainty and temporary abandonment. Then,

She became a bouquet.

About halfway through the creation of this piece, among budding shades of teal and rose, the impression of a bouquet of flowers surfaced.

Teal and rose are considered shy colors. They are tentative and quiet and calm. Dusty Rose is soft and mature. Associated with love, tranquility, kindness and elegance, she can evoke feelings of safety and nurturing. Teal is reserved and promotes clarity and practical thinking. I read while researching these colors that “teal blends blue’s tranquil stability with green’s optimism and healing properties. Teal is the color of tearfulness and mental and spiritual balance” it felt like the most accurate description of my journey with this piece.

In the beginning, I brought a lot of doubt and anxiousness to her. I placed pressure on this painting to be masterful, to be something great and in trying to force it one direction and another, I forgot why I chose to spend time with these colors in the first place — they contain an inherent happiness and grace that I wanted to share. Once that bouquet of flowers found me, this painting came alive with purpose. I could approach her with a level head and an excited heart focused on what they had to say. Together, we reached this resting point.

Movement filled with grace and colors that inspire elegant balance.
